Dems Challenge Americans For Prosperity Tax Status

The Democrats are demanding the IRS and the weak-kneed state Government Accountability Board investigate the Americans For Prosperity group that is a big fan of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

You've probably seen the ads from the Americans For Prosperity (AFP) group primarily funded by the billionaire Koch Brothers, Charles and David. The group gets tax exempt status meant for charities and educational institutions.

They love Mr. Walker and hate unions. Especially public sector unions.

Fair enough. Or is it?

What the AFP has been doing is getting tax breaks as a non-profit organization that is strictly prohibited  from supporting any political candidate.

Recently, at Palm Beach Florida, David Koch told the local paper, the AFP is actively working for Walker. “We’re helping him, as we should,” Koch said of Walker. “We’ve gotten pretty good at this over the years. We’ve spent a lot of money in Wisconsin. We’re going to spend more.”

And that's at the heart of the complaint against the AFP. Not its right to say whatever it wants. But against the Milwaukee teacher supporting the group's actions with her/his tax dollars.

Interesting to see where this goes.
